First Friday Dinner and Socializing
On the first Friday of every month our group meets for what we like to call our “Humanist Happy Hour”—a relaxed and fun social gathering where Humanists come together for dinner and lively discussion. Whether you’re interested in the latest news, science topics, humanism, or even complaining about Nebraska’s ever-changing weather, there’s always something to talk about!
Locations vary, so be sure to visit our Events Page and RSVP to save your seat! Come unwind, connect with fellow Humanists, and enjoy a night of good company and stimulating conversation.
Third Thursday Meetings
Join us the third Thursday of every month to explore thought-provoking topics that spark meaningful conversation and debate. Whether featuring a guest speaker, presenting an eye-opening film, or hosting a dynamic group discussion, these events delve into a wide range of subjects that challenge traditional religious thought, explore the principles of Humanism, and investigate pressing social issues. Come connect with fellow members, engage with new ideas, and be part of a community dedicated to learning and positive change.
Our Third Thursday series is free and open to the public. For specific details on upcoming events, please visit our Events Page.
Science Café
As part of our commitment to lifelong learning, OMAHA regularly attends the science cafés arranged by the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). Science cafés are designed to make science approachable to everyone. Science cafés take place in casual settings, like pubs or coffeehouses, and are open to everyone 21 and older. Topics are discussed in plain language and organizers work to ensure an inclusive atmosphere that is welcoming to those with no science background. Each science café is organized around an interesting topic. A scientist gives a brief presentation followed by a question and answer period.
Science cafés are held once or more each month at the Slowdown Pub at 729 N. 14th Street in Omaha. Our Events Page will have information on the next event, along with information on how to find our group.
OMAHA Book Club
The Omaha Humanists Book Club is a vibrant, weekly gathering for those who love to read, discuss, and explore thought-provoking literature. Meeting every Sunday, we delve into a wide range of books that span genres and subjects—from contemporary fiction and classic literature to works on philosophy, science, humanism, and social issues. Each meeting offers a welcoming space to share insights, exchange ideas, and engage in meaningful discussions that challenge perspectives and encourage critical thinking. Whether you’re a lifelong reader or looking to broaden your horizons with new books and conversations, our book club is open to everyone who enjoys exploring the world through the written word.
